RTSP Mixer
RTSP URLs for IP cameras

Almost every IP camera also delivers its picture over RTSP, but every brand names the path differently. These are the addresses of the common brands, the same ones RTSP Mixer uses in its camera templates.
How an RTSP URL is built
rtsp://user:password@192.168.1.64:554/path
- Host: the camera's IP address on your home network. Give it a fixed address in your router, or it may move after the next restart.
- Port: almost always
554, in which case it can be left out. - Path: depends on the brand, see the table.
- User and password: many programs take them inside the
URL. Special characters in the password then have to be encoded
(
@becomes%40). RTSP Mixer has separate fields for them, keeps the password in the Keychain, and the URL stays clean.

eufy and the Tenda CP3 v3 / CP3 Pro are tested on real cameras. The other paths come from the manufacturers' documentation and are marked as untested in the app. If one does not work for you, write to business@dpeuscher.de.
Notes by brand
Reolink
On recent firmware RTSP is off by default. Turn it on in the Reolink app or
the Reolink Client, in the network settings under ports or server settings.
Cameras that record in H.265 (usually 4K and from 5 MP up) often serve the main
stream as /h265Preview_01_main. Reolink's battery cameras usually
offer no RTSP at all.
Hikvision
The number at the end combines channel and stream: 101 is
channel 1, main stream, 102 channel 1, sub stream. On a recorder,
camera 3 is 301 or 302.
Dahua and Amcrest
Amcrest builds on Dahua and uses the same path. On a recorder,
channel= picks the camera, subtype=0 is the main and
subtype=1 the sub stream.
eufy
RTSP has to be turned on for each camera in the eufy app, and not every model offers it. You choose user name and password there yourself. More in eufy cameras on Apple TV.
Tenda
Tenda has two generations with different paths and ports, hence two entries.
Out of the box, the CP3 v3 and CP3 Pro sign in with admin /
admin123456. Change the password before the camera runs for
good.
Axis
Older firmware knows the user root; on newer firmware you create
your own during setup.
Main or sub stream?
The main stream has the full resolution, the sub stream a smaller one. With several cameras side by side the sub stream is the better choice: the picture is small anyway, and network, camera and device have less to do. RTSP Mixer switches per camera.
You do not know the address
- Search the network: RTSP Mixer finds what answers on the usual RTSP ports on your own network, and takes over control for ONVIF cameras right away.
- Manufacturer app or web interface: where it says something about “RTSP”, “ONVIF” or “NVR”, the address is usually nearby.
- Check with VLC: Media › Open Network Stream and enter the full URL with user and password. If VLC shows a picture, the address is right.
The camera does not answer
- Allow local network access: iOS asks on first launch. Without it, every camera on your home network stays dark. Catch up under Settings › RTSP Mixer › Local Network.
- Is RTSP turned on? On Reolink and eufy it is off by default.
- Too many connections: many cameras allow only two or three at once. If the manufacturer app or a recorder is running too, one of them is taken. A restream through go2rtc helps, see Home Assistant, go2rtc and Frigate.
- Separate network: if the cameras sit in their own Wi-Fi or VLAN, the router has to let RTSP (TCP port 554) through from the device to the camera.
